Introduction
Worldcup is a tournament organized by the international football governing body known as the Federation of international football association(FIFA).
The body was formed on 21 May 1904 under the leadership of Robert Guerin the first president of the association with its headquarters located in Zurich, Switzerland. However, the incumbent president of the association is Gianni Infantino who was appointed on 26 February 2016 by the FIFA Council.
The FIFA world cup has always been the biggest international football tournament which is held after every period of 4 years
History of the world cup
1930 FIFA world cup (Campeonato Mundial de Fútbol)
The First World Cup was organized in 1930 and the idea was brought up by Jules Rimet whose main aim was to establish an international competition that would bring together different men's football teams. The tournament was named the Jules Rimet trophy.
This inaugural tournament comprised 13 countries of which seven were from South America, two were from North America and four were from Europe and these included ;

•Brazil
•Chile
•Bolivia
•Paraguay
•Mexico
•Peru
•Romania
•Yugoslavia
•United States
However, three other teams were invited but later withdrew from the tournament.
These included Egypt, Japan and Siam present day called Thailand.
The tournament was hosted by Uruguay and it included 18 matches which were played between 13–30 July 1930.
The hosts won the inaugural tournament and were the first world cup champions ever after defeating Argentina 4 goals to 2 at the finals.
The top scorer of the tournament was Guillermo Stabile from Uruguay with 8 goals.
There was an overall goal number of 70 goals in the tournament.
1934 FIFA world cup ( Campionato Mondiale di Calcio
Italia 1934)
The second edition of the FIFA world cup was organized after 4 years and that was in the year of 1934.
It took place in Italy between the period of 27th May to 10th June.
This was the first world cup tournament to include qualification since the inaugural tournament was through invitation.
The tournament consisted of 16 teams from 4 different confederations.

The top scorer of the tournament was Oldřich Nejedlý Czechoslovakia with 5 goals.
The tournament consisted of 17 matches and 70 goals.
1938 FIFA world cup (Coupe du Monde
France 1938 )
The third tournament was held in 1938 and was hosted by France.
It took place between the period of 4th to 19th June at 10 different venues(9 cities).
15 different teams from 4 confederations participated in this tournament though 16 had qualified Austria withdrew from the tournament and these included;

Italy was crowned champions for the second consecutive time after defeating Hungary 4 to 2 in the final.
Leônidas was crowned the top scorer of the tournament with 7 goals and the overall tournament had 84 goals scored in 18 matches.
However, after the 1938 tournament, it took 12 years without organising another tournament and this was due to the break out of the world war II.
Therefore the tournament wasn't organised in 1942 and 1946.
1950 FIFA Worldcup (IV Campeonato Mundial de Futebol[1]
Brasil 1950)
The next tournament was organized in 1950 and was held in Brazil between 24th June to 16th July.
It comprised 13 teams from 3 different confederations and Uruguay were crowned champions after defeating Brazil 2 to 1 with Ademir being crowned the top scorer at 9 goals.
The tournament comprised a total number of 22 matches and 88 goals.
1954 FIFA world cup
The 1954 world cup was hosted by Switzerland during the period of 16th June to 4th July.
The tournament comprised 16 teams from 4 confederations and played at 6 different venues.
West Germany has crowned champions for the first time after defeating Hungary 3 goals to 2.
A total number of 26 matches were played with 140 goals overall and Sándor Kocsis was ranked as the top scorer of the tournament with 11 goals.
1958 FIFA world cup (Världsmästerskapet i Fotboll
Sverige 1958 )
This was one of the most competitive tournaments which also marked the arrival of a 17-year-old Brazilian wonder kid named Pelé.
The tournament was hosted by Sweden with 16 different teams from 3 confederations.
A total number of 35 matches were played and a total of 126 goals were scored.
Brazil has crowned champions of this edition after defeating Sweden in the final with a dramatic big win of 5 to 2 goals.
Just Fontaine was crowned top scorer of the tournament with 13 goals.
1962 FIFA world cup (Campeonato Mundial de Fútbol
Copa Jules Rimet Chile 1962)
With Chile hosting their first-ever world cup tournament in 1962, it had Brazil crowned champions for the 2nd consecutive time.
The tournament comprised 16 different teams from 3 confederations and an overall 32 matches with 89 goals.
However, there was a tie for the golden boot race with 6 competitors and each scored 4 goals

•Valentin Ivanov

Brazil defeated Czechoslovakia 3 to 1 in the final to be crowned champions.
1966 FIFA world cup
The 1968 FIFA World Cup was the eighth tournament organized and was hosted by England for the first time.
16 teams participated in the tournament with an overall of 32 matches played.
This was during the period of 11 to 30th July.
England was crowned champions after defeating 2nd-time finalist West Germany 4 to 2 in the final.
And Eusébio was crowned the top scorer of the tournament with 9 goals.
1970 FIFA world cup(Copa Mundial de Fútbol
México '70 )
The tournament was hosted by Mexico during the period of 31st May to 21st June with 16 participants from 5 different confederations and 32 matches.
Brazil became the first country to win the trophy thrice after defeating Italy 4 to 1.
It was at this tournament that different prizes were introduced and these including;
Best young player was won by Teofilo Cubillas and the Fair Play award was won by Peru.
Gerd Müller was crowned the top scorer with 10 goals.
1974 FIFA world cup (Fußball-Weltmeisterschaft 1974)
The tournament was hosted by West Germany between 13th June to 7th July with 16 teams from 5 different confederations participating and 38 matches.
West Germany has been crowned champions after defeating the Netherlands 2 to 1

1978 FIFA world cup (Copa Mundial de Fútbol
Argentina '78)
This was referred to as the Argentina 78 since it was hosted by Argentina.
The tournament consisted of 16 teams from 5 different confederations and an overall of 38 matches and Argentina was crowned the champion after defeating the Netherlands 3 to 1 in the finals.

1982 FIFA world cup(Copa Mundial de Fútbol
España '82)
This World Cup edition was organized by Spain and was won by Italy for the 3rd time after defeating West Germany at the final.
It's at this edition that the number of participants increased from 16 to 24 teams and 52 matches were played.

México '86 )
This was referred to as Mexico 86 since the tournament was organized by Mexico.
24 teams from 5 different confederations participated in the tournament and 52 matches were played.
Argentina were crowned champions for the 2nd time after defeating West Germany in the final.

The tournament was organized by Italy between the period of 8th June to 8th July and a total of 24 teams participated and a total of 52 matches were played.

2010 FIFA world cup
The 2010 World Cup was one of its kind and it was the first time for an African country to host the world cup tournament.
The tournament was hosted by South Africa.
The tournament was held between 11th June and 11th July with 32 teams participating at 10 different venues.
Spain was crowned champions after defeating the Netherlands with a late goal by Andreas Iniesta.

2022 FIFA world cup (
(كأس العالم لكرة القدم 2022
This is the most recent tournament and it was hosted by Qatar.
After being awarded rights, Qatar was the first Arab and Muslim country to host the world cup and due to climatic conditions in Qatar, the tournament was held between 20th November and 18th December.
Argentina were crowned champions after defeating defending champions France in the final.
